Color Club Winter Affair Holiday 2012 Collection Swatches & Review (part 2)

by - 08 September

Here's part one, in case you missed it.

2 coats

Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly is an evergreen foil packed with gold shimmer. I like that the base color is not overwhelmed by the gold. It's the perfect balance. Definitely one of my favorites from the collection.

The formula was just okay for this one. It's not great at self-leveling, but a careful application should yield pretty good results.

2 coats

Color Club Berry and Bright is a pink toned red with silver shimmer and red glitter. I'm not usually a fan of any red that isn't creme or jelly, but I don't mind this one.

I had some serious application issues with this. The consistency was quite thick and the glitter applied in small clumps. I had to take it off, thin it, and swatch again. Thinning helped, but it still isn't perfect.

3 coats

Color Club Gift of Sparkle is a warm purple with holo glitter. This is actually more sheer than I thought it would be, but it still builds nicely up to full opacity.

Gift of Sparkle is so pretty, but it is extremely thick and goopy...probably the worst polish I've ever encountered. Thinning it didn't really do anything, so I'm going to try a few more things to try to get this to work.

  1. Gorgeous swatches! Ho-Ho Holly is my favorite but Gift of Sparkle is also really pretty, but I'm not liking the sound of the bad formula.

  4. Ooph, I can't even *think* about holiday polishes yet! I'm just starting to wear fall shades...jeez, why do they push seasons so far ahead every time!!?!

I do love the look of all of these though, too bad about Gift of Sparkle, it looks quite pretty but if it's a glitter and its also got a terrible formula, I just can't get behind that at all!

  5. I guess so we all have time to get them before the season begins!

One coat of GoS over a similar colored base fixed my issue. Such a shame, though!

  7. I know, it's so pretty! If you get it, you'll have to let me know if your bottle has a better formula.

  8. Thanks! Yeah, it's really a bummer.

  9. “tiny bits of product swiped onto a card” I hate that Urban Decay has started doing that with their shadow & lipgloss samples. I feel kind of gross wiping something off a card, not to mention there’s usually not enough to really sample it.
My fav. thing is getting to try products I wouldn’t usually buy- I’ve fallen in love with stuff through giveaways/subscription boxes that I expected to dislike. I also love boxes that give you $$$ products for $ price

  10. Great swatches! I was surprised when my local Sally Beauty Supply got in these new Color Club polishes, because the Gift of Sparkle they have is a bright medium blue, not purple at all. It's a dupe for the new China Glaze called Blue Bells Ring. :-O

  12. I just picked up a mini set of these at TJMaxx for $3.99. Includes the 3 above plus "Snow-flakes." Yay! Many other sets and full size Color Clubs were there too!

  13. I do like these 3 - the purple one is coming up in the photo looking a lot like Zoya Aurora to me. I have to see if i can find any of these - this brand is super scarce to find where I live. Thanks for the truth in reviews - kind of makes me maybe think I don't need to look too hard for these with some iffy formulas -though I do like the red and like you said the green is nice that it's not over done with gold in it so that it's a full gold shift in some angles. I am getting tried of that look that's not really what I think I like in duochromes.

  14. How interesting! Gift of Sparkle and Winter Affair are totally different than the ones I picked up. At my Sally's, Gift of Sparkle is a bright blue with a metallic looking finish, and Winter Affair is a true gold foil. Strange!

  15. That's wild! I wonder why they changed some of the colors?

  16. Apparently they're at Sally Beauty with a few alterations. Thanks for your comment!
